How to install The Missing Link on an Arctic Cat Pro Cross

Hi! Brad from Brad’s AC Performance and Fink’s Suspension Service.

Today we will be installing a Missing Link on an Arctic Cat Pro Cross chassis.

It’s also used in the Yamaha, i don’t know what they call it in the Yamaha chassis.

I will show you throughout the video how to identify the pro cross chassis and why there’s a difference

I have already begun the process by removing the suspension from the snowmobile and pre-prepping a lot of the work that doesn’t need to be tediously gone through in the video but i will show you what i did and i will also explain to you that everything that you see me installing is prototype.

What you will receive will be in the photographs in the item description on the website bradsautoglass.com which is another one of my companies with a checkout system website where you can purchase using paypal amazon pay or your credit card.

Let’s get started. So as you can see I’ve already got the suspension out and on the sawhorses so that I can work on it and you’re going to need to remove a few bolts you’re going to want to make sure you’ve completely taken the springs loose. That makes a lot easier to get it out of the chassis.

You’re going to want to also at this time check all your wheel bearings and your high faxes do any of your maintenance that needs to be done. Now to identify a pro cross chassis right here this bar right here that attaches on the torque arm and comes down to the clevis. As you can see it runs underneath the shock and up into the lower mounting point on the torque arm. On the other chassis that are similar to this they have two rods that run on both sides and run up alongside the shock this has one rod that’s how you identify the pro cross rear suspension.

Now some of the work i’ve done to get this ready is i’ve removed the outer wheel and the aluminum bracket here that’s the ett tunnel device i’ve removed that i’ve removed the wheel taken the spring off so that you can get at this and work on this and then we’ve got a couple of parts that we’re going to install.

So first off you’re going to have to remove the bolt that holds the scissor pivot remove that remove the one in the coupler block the reverse coupler block and you’re going to want to loosen up the rear axle so that this frame will spread and we can get the missing link in between the rails.

So let me get started here and show you some of the stuff i want to do. All right so in the kit you’ll get something similar to this not this exact piece but very similar keep in mind this is all prototype work i want to get this video done on the prototype sled so what we have to do

is we’re going to install the missing link between the rails right underneath the rubbers and we have to identify where to drill the hole so we can bolt this together one time and what i’m doing is on the rail here there’s a hole you can see the rubber bump stop on the suspension and then there’s two holes here which are the wheel holes where you can add an extra set of wheels and my template will lay onto that you’ll stick a 5 16 bolt in here to hold this in place and this will allow you to identify the two spots where you need to drill holes through the chassis through the rail in order to mount the missing link.

Now i’ve already drilled one of them and i’ve got the other one marked i’m going to go ahead and drill this next one. As you can see the bracket that i just showed you had much larger holes the one you’ll receive will look more like this and it’ll have a pilot hole which is what i did there i drilled a pilot hole so just pay attention to that and it’ll be marked when you receive it so i’ve got this hole already drilled this is up to 3 8 and i’ll drill this one

As you can see that drills very easily. Now you’re going to want to repeat this process on the  other side so you have holes on both sides but i’m going to speed this process up so that you can see how this goes together.

That’ll lay in there you’ll pull the rails it’ll drop down in so in the kit you’ll receive these brand new grade eight bolts they’re nicely plated and have a nice flat surface to them so i’ve applied blue lock tight to both threads red and got them started with my fingers and you’ll want to tighten them up so after you’ve tightened up both sides you have the missing link installed the next thing that we have to do is to install the spring engagement piece which goes in the upper torque arm and how that’ll work is there’s a gap you can see right up there there’s a gap where that throttle rod hooks in okay come get it right here so there’s a steel shaft right here that the spring adjusters are mounted to and in my piece i’ve got a notch and this will fit right up inside here and it’ll hang on that rod and you’ll push this up in here like this and you’ll know it it’s there so come back on me so the part that you’ll be receiving that i just installed is made out of stainless steel so there’s no powder coating there’s no rust there’s nothing to worry about it is one inch wide your clevis may be one inch 25 one inch 30 thousandths so it may fit a little loose don’t hesitate to draw the bolt up you can also put a washer if you’re not uncomfortable doing that to shim that but you want to make sure that this plate right here the engagement plate is snug up against the clevis in the torque arm right underneath that bolt so that when it comes down it lands nice and flat on the spring you can see how it engages it nice and as it goes down a little more it gets flattened out you’ll also notice that that’s about the last inch and a quarter of travel which is a real nice feature so once you’ve done that make sure you’re comfortable and got it where it belongs you’re going to take your drill i don’t have a template for this and i’m not going to because of variations in chassis  but you can see where the first inch square is and i can see back there the second one i’m gonna pick a spot right up here so i go clean through and it’s really important not to haveyour drill hole so it’s really important that when you drill through this piece you can  see i got two pieces on top of each other welded together that you don’t hit this seam you want to get into the hollow part so that the bolt can go all the way through.

So I’m going to reinstall this and hear it click into place and I can see this top bar and where it’s at and I’m going to go right up here giving myself enough room to get the bolt through I’m using a 1 8 inch drill for so I get a nice drill hole all right so I’ve completed my test and I’ve drilled all the way through with the 8 inch drill.

Now i’m going to take a 5 16 stroll that and i’m going to drill all the way through all right so my holes all the way through i’m going to take a inch and a half five sixteenths grade eight bolt and stick it through.  I have a lock nut so with the bolt through you can see the parts in here this all needs to be tightened up and finished i’ve got to finish the other side which is what would be the next steps if i was going to make a long video need so with this side finished up that bolt just needs to be tightened the other side needs to be finished up of course you just repeat what i did on this rail on this side and transfer it to the other side and you can see how nice those bolts fit in there and they get plenty of meat and so that completes the installation.
